Dellene & Larry Nelson

Meet Dellene Nelson! You can’t miss her garden when you drive by. What an amazing garden she has! The front of the home has well-tended beds of sun-loving plants with flowers in every color you could imagine! As you stroll to the back yard, you are welcomed by a shade garden filling the entire back yard. It is well planned with hostas and other shade plants of all kinds, as well as some great garden art. Autumn & Ryan Willis, & Erika Petrey
Springfield, MO

Autumn & Ryan Willis, & Erika Petrey purchased this one acre property in 2020, and have been working to re-establish flowerbeds, create unique natural areas, and incorporate a variety of plant species. Points of interest include pollinator habitats, wild native areas, and a shaded stroll garden. The property has a total of 660 gallons of rainwater catchment, and the gardens are maintained with very minimal fertilizers, herbicides or pesticides to allow for the most biodiversity possible. Rick and Linda Jensen live on a gorgeous property near Hartville, MO. They have created a beautiful trailed garden as well as special landscaping around the house and trees for their enjoyment. They use many of the large rocks on their property creatively in the garden and other areas. Rick also made some of the metal silhouettes and several Japanese shrines. This is the little cottage home of Deanna. Everything in front is so beautiful and well tended, but there is a secret . . . when you step through the back yard gate, it is just magical! There are fairies and gnomes living amongst all the beautiful hostas and shade loving plants. What an amazing garden!

What a treat to visit this fabulous garden! It is a paradise for bees and butterflies! When you visit, you are greeted by a nice lawn and beds full of colorful flowering plants and shrubs. There is ‘Sara K’s Garden,’ a special bed in memory of her daughter. A plaque reads ‘If you truly love nature, you will find beauty everywhere,’ Van Gogh. As you walk through the gate to the back garden, you will enjoy a burst of colors everywhere of flowers in bloom and happy bees and butterflies fluttering about.

Tom and Cathy Lakowske
Springfield, MO

Tom and Cathy Lakowske have created this beautiful garden “Alta Birdsong” in Springfield, MO. The shade garden sanctuary is nestled under a 160 year-old elm tree and several mature hedge trees. The garden has the largest collection of Japanese Maples in southwest Missouri (over 70 with about a dozen in containers). Hundreds of hostas, ferns, coral bells, and ground covers complete the woodland scene. Alta Birdsong is an outdoor art museum, as well, boasting garden art, statues, bird baths, and bird houses throughout. Stroll the garden paths to tour 10 different garden rooms with fountains, beautiful views and comfortable seating.

Ray has planted some of the most amazing conifers you will ever see! The garden also featured popular annuals, perennials, flowering vines, and many peonies. Great care and planning was put into each plant selected on this beautifully designed property.

Shirley’s garden is filled with hostas and other shade-loving plants in the shadier areas—and some favorite perennials in the sunnier spots of the yard. There is a large wrought iron gazebo that is covered with vines to provide shade for the hostas growing inside.
